TALK OUT EVERYTHING WITH YOUR “LITTLE YOU”
As you take your baby for a walk, point to the birds, flowers, cars and say the word as you show him. Your baby will become aware of the environments, and start learning what these things are.
READ BOOKS WITH YOUR BABY FROM DAY ONE
Most times, people laugh at me when I read to my newborn, but by 7-8 months old, he has already started turning books by pages anticipating for what’s next. He was already able to recognize the pictorial aspect of the books. Sometimes, he drags his favorite books to read again. Isn't that great?
INDEX CARDS ARE GREAT
Honestly, the value of these great cards is simply incredible. Choose the index card with a front and back, number or letter on one side and beautiful sets of pictures that accompany the letters on the back. Your baby will enjoy playing with them. Don't worry about him reading them in order, just watch him as he picks anyone to read. Just make the whole thing fun and with time your baby will start learning letters.
TAKE YOUR BABY ALONG- EVERYWHERE
I know, getting your wonderful little one bundled up and dressed can be stressful, but he’ll soak up this experience and will look forward to it. He'll meet new people, see the world differently and watch other instead of just staring at the windows in his boring living room. As well, some moms balk at the idea of traveling with their baby, but these experience help stimulate your child mental wellness. My baby loved it when I brought him over to an NFL game. Getting him used to crowd will help develop him socially.
LET HIM SEE YOU DO YOUR NORMAL CHORES
Let him watch you brush your teeth, do your hair, do the laundry. Although these may prolong your work time (baby's stress), your baby will watch and learn everything you do.
DON'T USE TV (EVEN KID'S SHOW) A S A BABYSITTER
Bad habit! Some moms get their kids all stocked up on the TV just because they are too tired/lazy to interact with them. Your child can watch certain educational DVD or perhaps the ones accompanied with the index cards. My baby uses these since 2 months old and already says many words from these videos. You can chime in and interact with him to boost up his interest and learning.
LISTEN TO MUSIC, DANCE AND SING WITH YOUR BABY
For example, my baby loves electronic and house music. Sound strange, right? Thanks to the energetic style and upbeat tempo that stimulates his mind and puts him in a great mood. His interest in music has been from day one and we often play low tempo music to put him to a sweet night rest. Babies love music (your child isn't any different). Some house music, country music, Classical or whatsoever their mother listens to when the baby was in the womb.
TEACH HIM COLORS
Teach your baby colors by saying the color of things as you give it to him. Blue ball, yellow banana, which of them do you want?” As he grabs those items, tell him, the colors.
TAKE PRENATAL VITAMINS DURING PREGNANCY
Your baby’s intelligence starts from the womb, so ensure to take all-natural prenatal vitamins. Your baby has a higher chance of being smarter if he goes through the normal/proper supplementation during the period of pregnancy.
LET OTHERS PLAY WITH YOUR BABY
As long as the person can be trusted, doing this will teach your baby the principle of individualism. Babies have no judgment or concern about someone who is thin, fat, how they look or whatsoever, other than if the person is “fun" to be with or not. Let others play with your baby and he will learn about other humans and their character.
ALWAYS BE HAPPY, NO MATTER WHAT- EVEN AFTER A BAD DAY
Babies pick up on their parents’ energy. If you are angry, depressed, upset or generally in a bad mood, your baby will always pick it up from there. Make sure you always put a smile on your face and make your wonderful baby feel good.
USE POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT
No matter how little, once your bay does something you taught him, make a big deal out of it, yell “good boy” and encourage your baby to do more. Your baby will be happy to please you more.
SHOW HIM YOUR MIRROR
Yes, allow him to see his reflection and praise him when he does. What a smart boy, what a cutie. What a handsome boy, e.t.c... Tell him he is great and that he can be whatsoever he wants to be.
ALLOW HIM TO TOUCH THINGS
I understand, there are some things you wouldn't want your baby to play with. Sure, as parents there are some things we freak over a baby holding or even touching (like dirt). Making a big deal out of it piques his curiosity to even do it more. Let him feel the shape, texture or even dig his hand in the mud if he wants to. Sounds crazy, right? But this is how your baby can learn about the world. Make sure he doesn’t put it in his mouth.
GET HIM A STIMULATING TOY
Every baby loves toy. Buy your kids the toy that stimulates his mind. You can play with your little one by playing a peek-a-boo, making the tunnel to crawl throughout the blankets, and other mental stimulating homemade ideas.
