Baby Jogger 2017 Summit X3 Double Jogging Stroller Review
Baby Jogger have been a major player in the manufacture and sale of stroller/joggers for quite a while now Combining reliability with expert design, they've established a solid reputation for excellence, so when I heard about the X3, I was naturally interested to find out if they'd continued along these lines, or hit a bump in the road so to speak. Prior to release, Baby Jogger had been exceptionally confident in the X3's performance, claiming it could function on all terrain, had a number of interesting modes, is supremely comfortable and extremely durable.
This, I could believe given the company's past achievements but what made me skeptic was their claim that this double stroller could be folded to almost flat, in one step, simply by pulling the straps. Lots of stroller manufacturers make this claim but very few actually deliver in practice. So, after finally getting my hands on one I decided to put it through a few tests to see if it really is the best stroller on the market. The following Baby Jogger 2017 Summit X3 Double Stroller Review is an account what I found out.
Features of the Baby Jogger 2017 Summit X3 Double Jogging Stroller
The following are the features that you should know:
The Brakes are the standout feature of the X3, giving the purchaser complete control over the stroller at all times. Conventional front wheel brakes combine with a brand-new concept rear drum braking system for more control. Taking babies out along straight and even roads is often a breeze, but downhill sections sometimes turn into a drag, with parents supporting the weight of one or two children until the road evens out again. Baby Jogger have solved this problem as I found out with my children; going downhill I simply squeezed the rear drum brakes and these did all the work for me while I relaxed.
The X3 has a bar underneath both seats going down the middle. This is a popular feature in single strollers but is unfortunately very rare in doubles, resulting in a tendency for double stroller seats to sag over time, leaning into each other and ultimately causing huge discomfort for infants leading to upset. In a common-sense move, Baby Jogger have included extra thick seats, that recline, and the bar for extra reinforcement so babies will always feel comfortable in the seats. Excellent move as often doubles without reinforcement become unusable after a while, because infants simply won't get in them.
Dimensions of the X3 unfolded in inches are 50.75 lengths by 32 widths by 40 in height, and while the width stays the same, fold up length is reduced significantly to 33.75 inches, and the height drops by almost two-thirds to 15.5 inches. This is impressive, but what is outstanding about the X3 and what certainly amazed me was the simplicity involved in folding the item. I just lifted the straps and it folded almost completely flat into itself. It was one small operation and I could pick the X3 up and put it away.
Supreme Handling and Suspension
One of the major problems parents have with strollers/joggers is when they want to switch to jogging, they have to bend down and lock the front wheel for more stability. This can be very frustrating, but Baby Jogger have taken action and with the X3 you can lock the front wheel remotely from the handlebar making the switch much easier. To turn while jogging you simply you push the handlebar down and the wheel once again pivots.
Unlike a lot of companies, you get the feeling Baby Jogger have gone to great lengths to make the process of strolling and jogging easy. The wheels, for example, are lightweight, yet large enough to overcome any obstacles one might face the street, and each of the wheels has its very own suspension system, making the operation less of a strain upon the parent since the impacts of all road bumps are absorbed.
Ever sat down with a bunch of tools to start the set-up of a stroller/jogger? I have, more than once, and neither was an enjoyable experience, but as a parent sometimes you have to do things you don't necessarily like. Well, with the X3 (thank god) you don't need a single tool, as the set-up is extremely easy. It's a case of just attaching the canopy and the wheels, which happens to be a five-minute job.
A lot of thinking as gone into the canopy design, with covers supplied to keep cold winds out so the babies don't shiver during winter time and vents that allow just enough air through to keep infants happy on hot summer days. Baby Jogger have thought to place windows and a see through the roof so that parents can always keep an eye on their children while strolling/jogging. There's also covers for the windows that are attached using Velcro, which was exceptionally useful to me, as when my son was trying to sleep I simply sealed the windows so the outside world didn't distract him. It's exceedingly easy to remove and canopy too.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the weight of the stroller/jogger?
A: 35 pounds, and it can hold up to 100 pounds in storage.
Q: What if I get a flat tire?
A: That can be annoying but with the X3 there are inner tubes included with the product so just swap them.
This is a great stroller, and although storage can be compromised by the reinforced seat, this problem is vastly outweighed by the added comfort for the child. It's refreshing to see a company Dutta time and effort into simplifying operation for parents, from the easy set-up to the flat fold, to the drum brakes and the adjustable canopy. Everything is tailor made for a relaxing stroll or jog and most importantly, easy switching between the two. The verdict: An excellent buying choice.
